LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser hair removal was performed experimentally for about 20 years before it became commercially available in the mid-1990s. One of the first published articles describing laser hair removal was authored by the group at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1998.

The efficacy of laser hair removal is now generally accepted in the dermatology community, and laser hair removal is widely practiced in clinics, and even in homes using devices designed and priced for consumer self-treatment. Many reviews of laser hair removal methods, safety, and efficacy have been published in the dermatology literature.

FAQ's

How does it work?

The light is absorbed by melanin, the coloured pigment, present in the hair during the growth stage(anagen phase at which the bulb and the hair shaft is attached to the root), and is then conducted down to the route of the hair(hair shaft, hair follicle, epithelium and matrix). This light is turned into heat, and it is the heat that destroys the follicle and the route without side effects. This is ”selective photothermolysis”.

Who is it for and what parts of the body?

Men and women, light or dark skin and on all parts of the body. However, you should try not expose treated areas to the sun before or after each session. The absence of melanin in the hair prevents the transfer of heat, which is the reason for the lack of results with white, grey or red hairs, and why extra sessions are needed to treat fair hairs. A contrast between skin colour and hair is essential for this treatment. The hair should always be darker (more loaded with melanin) than the skin.

What results does it give?

People receiving the treatment show at least an 80% success rate for hair not growing back. Clinical research conducted over a number of years and in a number of countries, confirm its high level of effectiveness.

Does it hurt?

The treatment is done with very little discomfort, it is safe and with minimal downtime.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the nature and type of skin, skin pigmentation, age and sex. Usually, 8 to 10 sessions are needed at regular intervals of time depends on the area that is treated.
